There are many charities and causes that focus on childhood cancer, these are just some that help and links to their websites.


Candlighters logoThis charity is a fundamental part of Leeds General Infirmary (LGI).

They get involved in all sorts of different projects to help families cope with ward life, through play, relaxation therapies, peer groups, and days out. Families on treatment, get a free accommodation holiday at Centre Parcs or Primrose Valley, a much-needed break from the hospital.

On top of all this, they also put money into research and have the Candlelighters Children’s Cancer Research Laboratory in Leeds.

Fletcher’s Fund

Fletchers fundFletcher’s Fund, is in memory of Fletcher Fisher, an amazing boy who charmed everyone with his cheeky smile, he passed just before his 2nd birthday.

It’s a national charity with the aim to work in every children’s oncology ward across England and Wales.  The charity provides grants to families affected by childhood cancer, to enable them to buy play equipment or fund days out with their children. Their mission is to enable families to make memories together through play and having fun. Just what Fletcher liked!

CLIC Sargent

CLIC SargentCLIC Sargent’s specialist care teams will step in, ready to help, support and guide. They will provide a specialist package of support tailored to each young cancer patient and family.

Their vision is that everyone under 25 with cancer, and their families, will get the support and help they need during their cancer treatment and beyond, including bereaved families living with emotional pain.

Ziggy Zoo Radio

Ziggy Zoo RadioZiggy Zoo Radio are wanting to attract a wide range of listeners, through chat, comedy, current affairs, and the best music variety programming.

Through radio, they can raise awareness of childhood cancer, support those affected by cancer, and provide a platform for families of children with the disease, or the children themselves, to get their message out there.

Beads of Courage UK and Ireland


Beads of Courage UK offers complete support and assistance for children with chronic and serious illness through Oncology/Haematology, Burns, Cardiac, NICU, and Chronic Conditions programmes.

They provide support to the emotional and social wellbeing of a seriously ill child and their family, by giving them recognition of their medical journey.
This also includes the tools that are needed to communicate with others about their story, as they want to ensure that every child with a serious illness has access to the benefits of the programme. See also, International website for Beads of Courage.

Be Child Cancer Aware

They provide information in order to raise awareness of Cancer in Children, Teenagers and Young Adults through the Be Child Cancer Aware campaign.

They aim to, raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of the cancers that affect children, teenagers and young adults amongst parents and young people. To provide information about organisations who provide support to families and petition to the UK Government to ensure that all GP’s are aware of the Child Cancer Referral guidelines.

Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust

Grace Kelly Ladybird

The Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust was set up in memory of 4 year old Grace who passed away in 2014 after being diagnoses with an aggressive form of cancer, a malignant rhabdoid tumour.

In the UK, childhood cancer is the biggest medical cause of death of our children.  The Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust is working to raise awareness of this problem and to provide grants for research into rare paediatric childhood tumours, including malignant rhabdoid tumours.
